Usher's New Album "Here I Stand" Get's a Track by Track Review

By now most of you have either heard the new Usher album or have heard about it. I stand by my first statement when I said that the album was solid but is definitely no Confessions (meaning it's not a classic). The main reason I think people are not impressed is because this album shows Usher in a new light. Although this new light is slightly dimm I can still see where Usher was trying to go with it. While Confessions had massive crossover appeal Here I Stand is more urban. Confessions was written very well you can tell that the writers were seasoned but on Here I Stand some of the songs sound like Usher owed some favors. I won’t generalize the album I am going to break it all the way down. If you are new to the Sip let me tell you that I don't play favorites I give it raw no KY baby. Here we go!

Intro
A song that didn't make the album. The song shows that Usher can still croon but doesn't get me excited for the next song.

Love in This Club

When I first heard this song I thought it was a joke. I mean really Make Love In the Club but I digress. I live in Atlanta and when you live in the same city as a popular artist you tend to hear everything they dreamt about the night before (if you live in Chicago you know what I mean, I see you Kell's) so I wasn't sure if the song was a single or just a vocal workout. When I realized that Usher was serious I was disappointed. Mainly because Usher is on a higher level than this song in my opinion. When I heard that Polo leaked the single my first thought was, their going to rush the album. Love in this Club was the first release since Confessions and Usher's fans were starving for new music from him, so he could have released Mary Had a Little Lamb and it would have been on the charts for weeks that doesn't mean the material is worthy of the number 1 spot but that the artist is. I give Love in this Club 3 stamps for being ridamniculous!

This Ain't Sex

Sounds like NeYo wrote this. This song is corny as hell, that's all I have to say. Usher give Justin his song back.

Trading Places

I like the idea of this song but again who wrote this? There are so many things he could have said but he didn't, this song doesn't take it there. Vocally though Usher is a beast. Imagine if R. Kelly wrote this, masterpiece!

Strong ballad. Usher delivers vocally.

I can't tell you how much this song hurt my feelings. This song could have been an international classic but the writing sucks. Look people, just because you can form a sentence doesn't make you a song writer. HUH! I hate when great tracks don't see their full potential because of the writing or the overall performance of the song, it is truly a tragedy. Usher missed the boat on this one, I honestly can't believe these lyrics made the album. At this point Usher should be the leader not a follower. This song is very disappointing, I mean they used the Sweet Dreams sample for god sakes. Eh girl what's up????? Will you should have kept this track.

Beautiful. Usher truly loves his son that is soooo special.

Something Special

Ok, I can see how you would think he's getting his Robin Thicke on here but I don't think so. I am impressed with Usher's range and this is one of the songs where he gets to show off. Usher definitely knows how to ride a melody and he never falls off. His vocals on this song makes me feel good.

Love You Gently

Allot of people are saying there are way too many slow songs on this album but when are we going to leave the club people. Am I suppose to stay in the club from morning to night or can I take a break? Looks like Usher is taking a damn break from the club and there is nothing wrong with that. I don't know about you but if Ursh was singing about being with different women and hanging in the club I'd be like ummm don't you have a family?? Look, the man is married and he happens to love the girl, this is clearly shown by the material chosen. I like Love You Gently. Takes me back to when men actually liked women.

Best Thing featuring Jay Z

This song is actually showing how much married life has changed Usher, I like. Although JayZ wasn't needed.

Damn Usher were you that bad??? Tameka has either made Usher a better man or his son has helped him see the error of his ways. Before I Met You talks about how Usher has changed his player ways and how much he loves the woman that changed his life. DEEP! Go Head Ursh don't let these Na Sayers kill your joy.

His Mistakes

Again I like the idea of this song but ...... I don't know if it's the whining or just the overall crying he's doing through this song but it’s a turn off. Sounds like an old 80's song which isn't bad it just is.

Appetite

I likey. This song talks about the struggle Usher has with his appetite for the ladies. I like the delivery, the lyrics I like everything about this song. Again ya boy is riding this track like a thorough bred.

What's a Man to Do

I am not a fan of acoustic guitars so this song already has a strike. It's not a bad song but I just don't like it, maybe if I was cleaning the house it might get played but then again I may just put the broom down to next this song.

I absolutely love, love this song. Yo mama and my mama want some grandbabies. I can relate. I love changes in a melody so this song had me from the intro. Usher really made me feel like he is in it for the long haul with this song. This song took me back to Usher's first album "Usher" remember that song The Many Ways???? The Shit!

Love In This Club Part 2 Beyonce & Lil Wayne

What was the purpose of this remix???? Why Beyonce??? I mean can you see Beyonce doing anything other than sipping champagne and playing connect four behind her body guard in the club? I can't, and why does she put the old lady runs on this song, HUH, so over her. Why not get Kerri Hilson since she was in the video???? it's not like Usher needed Beyonce but whatever! I do enjoy Lil Wayne though.

Very strong song, happens to be Usher's favorite. I can't say the same but it's solid. Again Usher talks about how much he loves Tameka. I love this song, so touching, so sincere. Get yo grown man on Ursher!

Will Work for Love

Ok, why did this song make the cut??? Here I Stand should have been the last song but noooo Usher had to go too far. Remember this Usher, sometimes it's best to stop while you’re on solid ground.

Here I Stand gave Usher the opportunity to show how much he has grown but I think he may have grown too fast for some of his fans. In my opinion this album is a solid effort and I applaud Usher's growth. Although this album is not the beloved Confessions (I never expected for it to be) it shows how mature Usher is and how much he has changed. Isn't that what we want from these artist, to know every little thing about their lives? Well it sounds like Usher is honoring our request with Here I Stand. I would have been disappointed if Usher went in the studio using the same formula as Confessions he is a new man in every way possible and his music should reflect that. I give Here I Stand 3 out of a possible 5 celebrity stars.

Mrs. Knowles-Carter made a brief, surprise appearance at Jay-Z and Mary J. Blige's Heart of the City Tour last night. Soon after Jay shout's "Fuck That!" to a Crazy in love snippet, Beyonce comes out and does the "Uh Oh" dance to which Jay shouts, "That's some bullshit right there!" I'm sure this all was a stunt to poke fun at all the media's stories about the couple's first fight after the wedding, where Jay commands that "Crazy In Love" be cut off while being played at a Barack Obama event, and Beyonce angrily stormed off the side of the stage. These two are really getting on my nerves. Why am I even reporting this???!!!

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) — When the one-man, publicity-generating whirlwind that is Diddy met the well-oiled hype machine of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, sparks were bound to fly.

Sean Combs is getting a star Friday on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, an event most honorees mark by turning up at the assigned time, smiling for cameras, and going about their business.

Not Combs.

He put a video online asking fans to show up for the star-unveiling, set to the tune of Lupe Fiasco's hit "Superstar." He sat down at the Beverly Hills Hotel for advance interviews with infotainment TV shows and The Associated Press. And he's being feted with a lavish party Friday night at billionaire Ron Burkle's sprawling Beverly Hills estate.

"It's also like my coming-out party here in Hollywood," Combs told AP. "I don't have nothing to hide about that. If I'm going to come someplace, I'm going to make some noise, and you're going to know I'm here."

Combs is house-hunting in Los Angeles now, and plans to split his time between here and New York to pursue his acting career. To that end, he's looking through scripts in search of the next role.

He calls it a perfect time to stop and reflect on recent successes. Two of his "Making the Band" groups — Danity Kane's second album and Day26's first — just landed at the top of the Billboard charts. His ABC movie "A Raisin in the Sun" was a hit with critics and viewers in February.

"Sometimes you got to take a step back and breathe and enjoy and realize the magnitude of it, where you came from, how hard you worked, all the people that rode with you through your ups and downs," Combs said.

Family and friends from the block he grew up on in New York's Harlem neighborhood were joining him at the ceremony outside the Hollywood and Highland shopping complex.

"It inspires them," Combs said. "It inspires, you know, millions of young people all over the world that are in a place that I grew up in right now, and they want to make it to that point. I don't know if we know where Brad Pitt came from, or George Clooney.

"People are familiar with my journey, so it may inspire them more," Combs said. "So whether it's Eminem or Britney Spears or myself, you know of that journey. Whether it's coming from a small town, coming from a trailer park in Detroit, or coming from Harlem, New York. So when certain things happen to us, it's bigger than us. It inspires people."

What about that party, which is sure to inspire a few paparazzi in the direction of Burkle's mansion? Combs calls it an "intimate 250-person party" with "just very very close friends and family and people that I know throughout the industry."

The constant salesman drops shout-outs to sponsors Ciroc vodka and Cadillac, but won't reveal the guest list — except to note that David Beckham can't make it. Becks has a game in Utah on Saturday.

"I've had great parties with no celebrities there, great parties with tons of celebrities. We're all people," Combs said. Asked about the fest's rumored price tag, Combs smiles and responds: "It's up there, but I can't confirm it's $4 million. It's priceless."

Wearing a royal blue sweater over an elegant shirt and tie, with cufflinks shimmering next to a Cartier watch, Combs said he hasn't rewarded himself for the Walk of Fame star with any new toys or baubles. "We going through a recession right now, so I'm cutting back," he said. "Whatever I don't need, I'm just not buying it."

But he does have a few suggestions if friends are worried about what to get a guy who seems to have everything: "This party that we're throwing, it is a gift. I'm not going to turn down a gift. So if somebody wants to buy me a Maybach or a house in Beverly Hills, I'll accept it."Source

I've NEVER been a Lil Wayne fan. When he was first introduced to us at the age of 14 I just knew he would be another Bow Wow or that other guy, what's his name ........ Oh, Romeo, but I was DEAD WRONG! Now I am the type that does not have a problem admitting when I'm wrong and this time is no different. Last night at the 11th Annual BMI Unsigned Artist Talent Showcase Lil Wayne came, he saw and he conquered that stage. I always appreciate it when an artist comes to a small event and rocks the stage like he's in a arena. That shows me your dedication and how much love you have for your fans and what you do. Weezy definitely loves his fans. Before starting off the show he asked if everyone believed in God, the reply was yes and he said that's good. Then he said give it up for the ones that made me, you never hear that. He didn't act like SOME rappers I know talking about, y'all better be happy I put the blunt down to come out here, then in the middle of the show this niggar answers his cell phone??? (this person shall remain nameless). NO, Wheezy was there for a purpose, to show you why he will be the last one standing and he did just that.

It would have been great if we could have actually heard the acceptance speech. The sound at the Luckie Lounge last night was ridamniculous (pronounced ri-damn-ic-ulous). You couldn't hear anything anybody said so it was pointless but Dallas lookd very nice. Except for the NWA glasses.

Orlando Brown of TV's That's So Raven, who worried friends and family after his disappearing act on Tuesday morning, has turned up, saying he simply "needed to be alone."
In a statement, Brown, 20, thanked fans for their support and apologized for not informing anyone of his whereabouts for over 24 hours.

Brown, who is a musician as well as an actor, said he dropped out of sight after a problem last week involving a scheduled performance at Club Tattoo in Los Angeles. After the incident, Brown said, he felt a little lost and needed to get away.

"It got a bit overwhelming and I needed to be alone," he said.

Brown's publicist, who had earlier confirmed that he was missing, denied that the disappearance was a publicity stunt. "It was not a hoax," the rep says.

Brown reportedly left his manager's house around 10:20 a.m. Tuesday to make a quick trip to 7-Eleven and had not been seen until Wednesday night. According to Brown's publicist, Elayne Rivers, he had a full day of meetings and appointments in preparation for a photo shoot Wednesday.

Perez Hilton is reporting that "That's so Ravens" co star Orland Brown was reported missing on Tuesday morning by his familiy and friends.

Orlando left the Studio City home of his manager, Ricky Romance (nice name), at around 10:20am to make a quick stop at the 7-Eleven, and has not been seen since. The store is just a quick walking distance from the house. Brown was set to have a full day of appointments and meetings yesterday and did not show up to any.

His publicist adds that his friends and family members are very concerned as he's not one to be out of touch for too long.

This has tentatively been selected as the cover for Ashanti’s new album, The Declaration.

I know you’re all thinking it, she looks like a Beyonce knock off. Why is EVERYBODY trying to be Beyonce these days?! I mean I know she raised the bar, set a new trend whatever whatever. But does that mean everybody has to try and be like her? Step outside the Bey Box, dare to be different!!! The cover for the single “The Way That I Love You” is much better. It says, Ashanti. This is not the time to be playin follow the leader, especially when you can barley stay on key or hit the right note and your dance moves are wack as hell! Don’t get me wrong, I am in no way “bashing” Ashanti, it’s just that I expected her to at least try and be a little different. When you have very limited talent, as she does, you have to try and set yourself apart, otherwise you’ll just fade into the background, as she has in the past and soon will again in the future. What happened to the “Foolish,” “Baby,” “Happy” Ashanti, with the black hair, wolverine sideburns and a little meat on her bones, we liked her much better.

Ok, so of course I tuned in to Miss Rap Supreme last night and I'm convinced Khia is a crack head. Only crack heads are as dillusional as this chick is. How you gonna get on t.v. and spit a ryhme from an old song? Maybe she was as suprised as I was when she found out someone other than herself actually heard it. Didn't she know she would be outed?? She is an ASS! This chick get's 3 donkey stamps just off gp (general principle) and 3 for this dumb ass you tube message she sent out. Face it boo, My Kneck, My Back was a hit not YOU! And did I hear her call that song a Hip Hop CLASSIC? You didn't even know the song would blow, you were just as suprised as the rest of us. Now you trying to act like it was apart of a master plan or some shit. GET IT TOGETHER, your whole act is HOT GARBAGE on a SHIT HILL!
